On this New Year's Eve...

2010 has been a rollercoaster of a ride and there are so many things for me to be thankful for! Through the ups and the downs, it really did turn out to be a wonderful year full of love and happiness.

... my dad started walking again after his accident and was able to return to work and best of all (for him anyway) play golf.
... my sister is still my best friend and we're lucky enough to live close by and visit at least weekly
... my mom was able to visit us more often than she did last year, even if the circumstances weren't always the best
... my stepmom loves my dad, accepts my sister and i as her own children and was an amazingly strong support system for my dad while he was injured
... my family has survived the year - though not everyone will survive 2011, we had no deaths in 2010
... my bestest has found the love of her life and i\m so thrilled that he's good to her and treats her right

And me? Well, in March, Turkey Butt kissed me and I knew that I was madly in love with him and would never kiss another man ever again. We tumbled into this whirlwind love affair that I know will last the rest of our lives. I love him more every second of every day and wish we could just spend a lifetime together playing boardgames and watching movies and travelling from my family's cottage to his and hanging out with the animal babies and loving each other like it's going out of style. In 2010 we kissed, fell in love, were accepted by and fell in love with each other's family, we moved in together, we got our own place, we got pregnant, we loved and supported each other through a miscarriage, we adopted a new animal baby, we got engaged and we started new Christmas tradtions that we plan to pass down to our children someday! It wasn't always pretty, but it was always love.

Now, to 2011, all I have to say is: Bring it!

This is my life!

Hollywood Humour

I am loving the new leading men that have been popping up in movies and on tv shows in the past few years. Gone (okay going) are the Nic Cage's, the Tom Cruise's, and the Brad Pitt's. Finally the movie industry is appealling to my generation. We're sarcastic, want a good laugh and need a realistic leading man. Or at least I do. How many of you know the Brad Pitt type in real life? Now, how many of you would actually want that type as your leading man? Not me. I'm looking for genuinely sweet, sarcastic, honest, down to earth, able to go with the flow and make fun of themselves when necessary.

These are some celebs that I've been loving lately for this exact reason:

(Jason Segel - How I Met Your Mother, Forgetting Sarah Marshall - not afraid to get naked and use his goofiness to get laughs)
(James Stewart - It's A Wonderful Life, Vertigo - he's always been my leading man)
(Jay Baruchel - Nick & Norah's Infinite Playlist, Knocked Up - adorable, hilarious, nerdy laugh - A+)
(Tom Hardy - Inception - is it just me, or was he the best character in Inception?)
(Casey Affleck - Gone Baby Gone, The Killer Inside Me - he's more serious roles never take anything away from his quirky characters like Virgil in the Ocean's trilogy)
(James Franco - Milk, Tristan + Isolde - as always, cannot be forgotten and especially cannot be left off a list like this)

This is my life!

$$$$$

I spent too much money this Christmas. There. I said it. Three Christmas' ago I was broke and thought, How can I give without breaking the bank? So I decided to donate money to charity in lieu of giving gifts to my large extended family and my good friends. Sure, I gave a few tiny things, stocking stuffers really but I stuck by it that first year. The problem? No one wanted to abide by my wishes to not receive gifts either - just money donated in my honour. So I felt guilty and the next Christmas I bought a few more gifts for everyone AND donated money to charity. This year my gift purchasing was extraordinary. Definitely at least as much as I ever did. Plus, I still donated all that money to charity.

Because I've this, i've made the decision to get back to the basics, and make my gifts for next year! Knowing that waiting til the last minute is not an option when making things, I've already begun my creations. Best case scenario, I complete one item a week which will give me 52 items come Christmas 2011. I'm sure it won't be that perfect, but it's a good goal. A fairly realistic goal at that.

With a few days spent in Cottage Country for my birthday, a trip down south (Mexico? Cuba? Domincan?) for our anniversary/Turkey Butt's birthday, oh, and a wedding - money is going to be tight this year. But bring it on! This is my life!

Our First Christmas

Today, Boxing Day, Turkey Butt and I are celebrating our first Christmas together. We're starting the day in our matching pajamas, he'll make us smoothies and french toast, my parents will come watch us open our presents, I'll make scallopped potatoes for supper (his request) and we'll just lie around being lazy with the animal babies all day!

Last night, since it was our version of Christmas Eve, we each opened one gift from the other. I received a beautiful photo of an old house that spans across two canvases. Turkey Butt received a DVD collection of the entire career of one certain boxer. He was SO excited! Big smiles, goofy grin, knocked me over to kiss me and thank me and tell me he loves me. What a great reaction!

Now if only he'll get out of bed, we can get this party started :) This is my life!

Happy Holidays!

My Christmas Eve has been absolutely amazing! I was surrounded by my family, we had some amazing food, and the gifts this year were above par! The only things I'm lacking are my Turkey Butt and my Dog Face. It's so quiet in the house with just Rocco and I, and opening gifts isn't the same without Turkey Butt to show them to. We'll have our own Christmas (on Boxing day) and create some traditions of our own to carry on when we have kidlets but I miss him now. He's sadly an hour away, visiting his family and I work in T-minus 8 hours for the entire Christmas Day. Sigh. This is most definitely the last time I let anything get in the way of spending the holidays with the love of my life! This is my life!

Just some eye candy for your xmas eve pleasure.

Just watched James Franco on Jimmy Kimmel last night and all I can say is.... LOVE! Sigh... The mustache, the blushing, the 100 watt smile, the humour, the intelligence. Oh my! This is my life!

Holiday Movie # 16

I really tried to like this movie. I did. Even the fact that I was watching it at 2am didn't save this movie. Nor did this handsome man. Or this great actor. I just couldn't get passed the fact that I cannot stand ANYTHING about Jenny McCarthy. She's just one big annoying package (sorry, it really works for her, but I can't take it). Apparently there's a Santa Baby 2. After looking here though, I'm going to skip it. Santa is no longer played by that same great actor (see above) and Luke (a.k.a. the hunk) is now played by Mrs. Tori Spelling. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy Dean McDermott but he's no Ivan Sergei. Besides, if I'm watching a sequel, I want to see the same people playing the same roles. Otherwise, write out those roles. This is my life.

P.S.
Ivan Sergei, mmmm.

Holiday Movie # 15

Another holiday classic, Home Alone. I've always wished that I was as smart and creative as this kid. Heck, I still do. This is my life.

Holiday Movie # 14

John McClane, kicking ass and taking names... again! If only all the Die Hard movies took place at Christmas time. Seriously, it was such a great concept. A nice, upbeat holiday movie for the action-types. Sigh. Another holiday classic. Paired with Die Hard, it makes a great evening of action in front of the Christmas tree. Or maybe that's just me? This is my life.

Holiday Movie # 13

With parent's who are separated, this very easily could have been my Christmas this year. Instead, mainly due to an excessive work schedule, I will be celebrating on Boxing Day at my place. My family has been informed that they are all welcome to come visit us, but I will not be travelling on my one and only day off in the entire month of December. Turkey Butt will spend Xmas Eve and Day with his parents an hour away (they're still together) and I may spend a few hours with my Dad, Step Mom and Sister on Xmas Eve. Otherwise, one christmas. Our first :).

But back to the movie, not executed as well as it could have been considering the concept, but it's enjoyable none the less. This is my life.

Holiday Movie # 12

Deck The Halls. It's really hard not to compare this movie to Christmas Vacation. Especially since I just watched it earlier today. I mean, it's alot different. But there are enough similarities to make you go Hmmm. Like how the scenes open with an advent calendar door being opened. Different advent calendar, same exact idea. Hmmm. See! This is my life.

This is why I love my fiance!

Give me a kiss to build a dream on

And my imagination will thrive upon that kiss

Sweetheart, I ask no more than this

A kiss to build a dream on

Give me a kiss before you leave me

And my imagination will feed my hungry heart

Leave me one thing before we part

A kiss to build a dream on

When I got home from work tonight, I sat down at the computer to glance at my Facebook and update my blog. This is pretty common for me. But, just as I sat down, Turkey Butt turned on some music (not so out of the ordinary), turned on the Christmas tree lights, and turned off the rest of the lights. I didn't think much of it, except that it was difficult to type in my email address in the dark. But then Turkey Butt grabbed my hand and asked me to come dance with him :) We just slow danced to 'A Kiss To Build A Dream On' by Louis Armstrong, in front of our Christmas tree! Soooo romantic, so sweet, so absolutely perfect! I SO love my fiance! He's a keeper! This is my life :) :) :) :)

Holiday Movie # 11

Love, love, love it! This isn't my life and that makes me very thankful :)

This is my life.

Holiday Movie # 10

Surviving Christmas starring Ben Affleck, James Gandolfini, Christina Applegate, The Mom From Home Alone, The Chick From House, etc. Completely predictable, but a twist on the typical holiday movie. This is my life......

Holiday Movie # 9

Mickey's Christmas Carol. Who doesn't love a little Mickey over the holidays. Mind you they happily skip through the majority of this story. But for kids, it's a classic! This is my life!

Holiday Movie # 8

If finding your soulmate on a tight deadline isn't a Christmas miracle, I don't know what is. This is my life.

Holiday Movie # 7

I've got to admit, this is a horrible made for TV movie about the holidays. Okay, that wasn't my confession. My real confession is: this is not the first time that I've seen this movie. But everything else that I said is completely accurate. You know it's a bad movie when you're shocked by how nice the movie poster (see above) looks. I was shocked! The poster looks better than the entire movie. Holiday cliche's, bad romances, awful acting, and the stereotypical lead with fake boobs, hair and a tan. Sigh.

Don't go out of your way to watch this, unless you're trying to watch as many holiday movies as possible over the month of December. That's my excuse and this, is my life.

Holy Windstorm Batman.

The radio has been warning us Valley folk  about Severe Wind and Rain Storms coming our way. Obviously, I've just been ignoring it. Oops. During the midst of it, you couldn't find a house with power (unless they had one of those fancy generators) within a 30 minute radius of my town. Including my town. Turkey Butt walked me to work and the only vehicles on the roads were police car's and fire trucks (and the fire trucks always had their lights on). We didn't run into any people (or Zombies - trust me, we were a little worried) on the 20 minute walk. But the entire town was pitch black, it was plus 15 degrees Celsisus, the wind was blowing Adora over and trees were literally being uprooted out of the ground. Down by the water, the visibility was worse as the fog was rolling in at an unbelieveable pace. It was straight out of a Zombie Apocalyse movie, I swear.

 To top that, I had to sit in the pitch black, creepy old Victorian nursing home all night. I waited and waited and by morning, the power still wasn't on. Trust me, it is very difficult to rouse 5 elderly ladies, get them breakfast and complete their personal care by the light of a flashlight. I managed it though. When my shift was through, I made the trek back through town - but in the daylight this time. It was amazing! Large trees cracked in half, power lines hanging like skipping ropes from their branches, trees uprooted in areas that I don't think had trees to begin with. I kinda felt like I was in a really tamed down version of Twister*.

It's 2pm now. The power only just returned... to our place at least. Turkey Butt and Adora have wandered downtown to see if they can find any food. Rocco and I are cuddling and awaiting their return. I'm certainly curious to see what the state of the town is now that the power has returned. I've heard it mentionned many times, "you know it's bad when Tim Horton's has shut down". On that note, I'm going back to eating Turkey Butt's Peeps:

and enjoying my time off before work interrupts my life again. Some tree trimming perhaps? This is my life!!!!

*I'm not comparing our wind storm to a tornado. I cannot imagine the ramifications of something like that. I am purely joking/using sarcasm to allay my night. Sorry if I've offended any one.

Holiday Movie # 6

My FAVORITE Christmas movie (okay, it's in the top 5). Die Hard makes you thankful for your normal, slightly dysfunctional family and holiday traditions. What are John McClane's holiday traditions? Getting shot at, pursuing bad guys, and trying to not get blown up. Sigh. Next up... Die Hard 2 perhaps?

This is my life...

Holiday Movie # 5

A Heartland Christmas. Now, I've got to be honest. I've never watched a single episode of Heartland. I've meant to. But it feels like one of those things (like Lost) that you need to catch from the beginning. But in my pursuit of holiday movies, I watched this one tonight while the residents were in bed. And it was totally cute. And I totally want the power to go out during my Christmas celebrations. And I totally want to live back in the "olden days" (not that this movie takes place in the past) just like I always pretended as a child. There's something about the seclusion of a horse ranch in the middle of the woods that peaks my interest. Sigh.

This is my life!

Holiday Movie # 4

A Town Without Christmas. Starring Patricia Heaton (think Everybody Loves Raymond and The Middle) and the adorable Rick Roberts (not in much of anything but has the cutest little freckles). It was... well, it was holiday movie number four. Let's leave it at that.

This is my life...

Holiday Movie # 3

I've gotta be honest. 3am is not the best time to look for holiday movies to watch on TV. BUT, when you're working an awake overnight, you get pretty desperate. Like in this instance. Snow 1? Never even heard of it. But, I quickly got the just of it. And for fun, Tom Cavanagh is a nice blast from my high school past (Ed). So this wasn't a total waste of my time. It had it's cutesy moments, even if it was totally predictable. And I happen to love the term "brain freeze" as I always get it mixed up with "freezer burn".

This is my life!

Just in time for the holidays...

Turkey Butt is having some MAJOR issues at work. His sous-chef (usually the boss of the first cook but in this restuarant they`re even) shoved a sheet pan into his chest for no discernable reason. This led to the two of them on the ground (Turkey Butt on top - he`s an amateur boxer) and the owner`s reaction... Told the Sous Chef it served him right. What the hell! Now I totally don`t agree with these elementary school antics but am definitely worried if this is what the job is coming to. So now, Turkey Butt is talking about giving his notice (with my FULL blessing) and finding another line of work til he hears back from the Armed Forces. Bad timing but SO necessary. Luckily he`s got some money coming in from his second job. And he`s got his jar of money to live off of (so long down south vacation). And all my Christmas gifts are bought and charitable donations given. I think we`ll be okay.

This is my life...

Holiday Movie # 2

I LOVE Vince Vaughan. How could you not? He's this big, goofy teddy bear. And he really plays the best characters - at least when he plays up the big, goofy teddy bear factor. LOVE! And the Siblings Anonymous meeting, brilliant! ``He is not Alec!``

This is my life!

The Little Man Has Arrived!

When I went to pick Rocco up from the Shelter yesterday, we found out the sad reason he was there to begin with. The shelter informed me that they suspect (based on his injuries) that he was tossed out of a car window. His face was so badly damaged that they thought they may have to euthanize him. Luckily they didn't! Instead, with a little TLC from the shelter and he foster home, he's a happy, curious and very social kitten.

Things to know about Rocco:

-he purrs ALL the time;
-his favorite past time so far is to run and pounce on things;
-he prefers drinking out of Adora's water dish over his own;
-his cuddle time maximum appears to be 45 seconds;
-he loves belly rubs!

...more to come! This is my life!

Super Slacker.

I am such a super slacker. I even had the entire day off and still couldn't muster up the energy to take photos of my clothes. Just know that I am only wearing clothes from my 30 for 30 pile and I still have not gone shopping for new items! There will not be daily updates though. My life is non-stop right now! Why? Because this is my life:

- dog;
- fiance;
- sister;
- work;
- grandparents;
- christmas.

Though certainly not in that particular order. This is my life.

30 for 30 - Day Three and Four

So busy. Super busy. Beyond busy. Sleep? What is sleep?

Day Three - No photo because I am far too tired to a) upload photos, b) take my clothes off or c) lie my clothes on the floor so that I can photograph them. Anyways, 2 + 6 + 18 + 28.

Day Four - 3 (til I sat in toothpaste at work and then changed back into 2) + (...insert pause to look down at clothes to remember what exactly it is that i'm wearing today) 10 + 26.

Sigh.

Did I mention we're attempting to adopt a kitten? Word of advice time? Okay. Never. NEVER EVER go to the animal shelter to "just look" at the kittens when you're even remotely pondering the idea of getting one. Never. You see, this is what happens: You fall madly in love with the first orange kitten that you see. He rolls on his back just like your adorable dog does. He reaches through the cage bar's in an attempt to bring your attention back to him when you look in other cages. You take him out of the cage for a cuddle. He shares a similar birth day (not birthday but birth day - as in both the 31st of completely seperate months) as your afore mentionned adorable dog. You ask the vet all the right questions about finding the right cat to keep your adorable dog company while you're out for a few hours. Then you ignore their suggestions (let's be honest, you knew you would) and fill out an application for the cute little orange kitten. Even though his name is Reliant. Oh, and he's a he. What does one name a male cat anyway?

Sigh.

This is my life!

30 for 30 - Outfit One

(7 + 2)

This is my life!

30 for 30 Challenge.

Through the magical, invisible strings in blog world I came across this fun challenge at http://kendieveryday.blogspot.com/2010/11/announcing.html. The just of it is: 30 days. 30 articles of clothing (not including jackets, under garments, accesories, etc). 30 different outfits. NO SHOPPING! Through the basic rules, shoes are supposed to be a part of my 30 but shoes are not an issue in my life - sneakers for work, boots for fun. My main issues are tops and how I feel the need to go shopping every other day and buy more clothes each time. Oye. So I'm giving this a go!

Here are my 30 items of clothing:

(black Miley Cyrus leggings from Wal-mart - with holes on backside)

(softest, comfiest jeans in the world - thank you bluenotes)

(i've had these jeans for at least 2 or 3 years - I think they originated from bootlegger)

(old navy sweetheart jeans)

(navy cardigan via frenchies*)

(cardigan that I wore over my best man dress at my dad's wedding - old navy)

(target this weekend)

(frenchies*)

(bluenotes, i think it was on sale for $5... maybe $10)

(bluenotes, another cheap find - less than $10 for sure)

(suzy shier, my absolute favorite cardigan - still kicking after two years)

(from winners - i've yet to wear this outside the house - great for dress up though)

(from joe fresh, i bought this in a grocery store)

(urban behaviour - i think i bought this during last fall's maine shopping trip)

(target this weekend. bought it in XL just because I had to have it - and was not fitting into XS)

(frenchies*)

(winners this summer. very cute with leggings and my favorite black cardigan)

(sale rack at bluenotes a million years ago - still love it, holes and all)

(old navy - get to live out my hippy fantasy's in this top)

(garage - too big but let's me have a don't-have-to-suck-in-kinda-day)

(winners, also with holes - i wear my clothes out when i love them long time)

(target this weekend, almost returned it... not sure about the zipper...)

(suzy shier, super expensive, bought for a murder mystery party where my character had to dress like a rich little daddy's girl and I didn't think I had that in my closet)

(garage - my go to tank top. full of holes)

(worn only once. new purchase from winners that spent many nights on my bedroom floor with the tags still on it)

(bluenotes. big and baggy but still capable of being dressed up)

(walmart - tag still attached - haven't put it on even once - hoping it's a good fit)

(i always feel so classy in this top - from smart set, my favorite store in high school when money seemed endless)

(from winners, very cute and baggy in the awful belly area)

(winners)

First, I would like to apologize for the randomly 21-29 numbered items. My childhood book was working perfectly, til it began going up by ten each page after number twenty. Sigh. Instead you're stuck with items randomly lying around my apartment. Like a Target bag. Just got back from a weekend in Maine. Spent my full customs-specified allowance in Target (the first store), ate at The Olive Garden and was ready to go home to my much missed Turkey Butt. But don't worry. I returned a few items, and stayed the full two days. And now i'm online shopping at Target.com.... Hmmm.

* For those not in the know, Frenchie's is a used clothing store (or franchise of them) in Nova Scotia. All the clothes get shipped here from New England and they're tossed into bins that you have to methodically dig through to find something you may like. I kid you not.

So, this is my life!
