Burger Bonanza

This time around we tried Burger King. Turkey Butt didn't notice the salad options until after he had ordered so I'll leave that area out on this review. As for my burgers with just ketchup, they were delicious! And only $1.89 each - much more reasonable. These may just give McD's a run for their money... Will have to eat them together for the perfect comparison!

Let's score Burger King:

Fast Food Burgers

Let me confess something to you. I am addicted to McDonald's hamburgers. There. I said it. Because of this addiction, I thought that perhaps it would only be fair if I ate burgers from all the local fast food places to see if McD's burgers really are the best. Turkey Butt decided to join me and compare the "healthier" options from each place.

First up was A & W. I was a little disappointed by the burger selection - or lack thereof. I could order a Mama Burger for about $4. That seemed ridiculous to me for one measly burger with just ketchup on it. So I decided to get the Kid's Meal instead - $4.49+tax for a baby burger, mini pop and mini fries. The burger was small obviously, but it was good. The bun was far too big for the size of the burger, but it was alright. Certainly no McDonald's but it was alright. Turkey Butt decided to opt out of this review because the A & W outlet we went to didn't offer salads (his healthy meal of choice at McD's).

Let's score A & W:

Next up we stopped at Harvey's. Again I was shocked by the price of a plain old burger. In this case it was $3.99+tax. I guess one thing it has going for it is you get to pick your ingredients from a Subway-esque tray in front of you. This didn't have much appeal for me as I only like ketchup on my burgers, but for someone else it'd be nice. Turkey Butt inquired about their salad offerings and was disappointed by their one and only option - a BLT salad. Instead he opted for a veggie burger. He wanted me to mention that he was offered a choice between a white bun or a whole wheat bun. This was only offered for the veggie burger but it was still nice to know it was an option. Turkey Butt would also like to mention what happened when he went into this particular Harvey's location: I guess he walks in and the entire staff is sitting at a table in the corner. He stands in the front at the counter for a\few minutes and no one got up to serve them. He (probably not so politely) asked them if they were all on a break or if someone might want to take his order. Eventually someone did but clearly slacked at their job. The fries were soggy with awful smelling, old cooking oil and my burger was still very pink on the inside. So pink that I couldn't even eat it for fear of getting food poisoning.

Chocolate.

I must stop eating chocolate bars for every meal. Seriously. I'm sitting here at 9:30am, eating a Crispy Crunch bar that I found lying by the couch. It's not even satisfying, it's just something to eat within arm's reach. I really must stop eating chocolate bars for breakfast.... at least I will once my house is rid of them. Don't want that King Size Coffee Crisp or the box of 10 "Mars Bars" to go to waste now do we? Sigh.

Day Eighteen

Day 18 – Something you crave a lot

I had to think about this one for awhile. I even asked Turkey Butt what he thought. We sat here and couldn't think of anything. Then I remembered what a feind I was for chocolate last night and how I had to beg him to hide the package before I ate them all. So I think the answer is pretty obviously chocolate. Though this is what I was devouring last night:

Did you know there's not even any coffee in Coffee Crisp? Guess I can't blame them for not being able to sleep last night. They were good while they lasted though - and they certainly didn't last long as Turkey Butt failed to hide them well..... This is my life!

The Changes We Make...

I am trying to do right by my unborn child. Trust me, this is not easy - especially when it comes to food. Our fridge is currently stocked with perishable food items that need to be eaten within the week or they'll have to be tossed. We're typically the type of people who purchase groceries once every other month. We love fresh fruit, but when you shop that infrequently, it's not around for long. But now I'm eating for two. So yesterday we went grocery shopping and dropped $160+ on food. The majority of which are veggies and fruits. There are cucumbers, green beans, mushrooms, spinach, carrots, celery, potatoes, red grapes, bananas, oranges, grapefruits and even a mango. WOW. If you know me, you'll know that I do NOT like veggies. I'm a super picky eater. But, this is a sacrifice that I'm making for Pumpkin:

This was my Supper! Sliced cucumbers, green beans and a 12 grain tortilla with shredded mushrooms and old cheddar cheese inside it. Somehow I managed to eat the entire thing (minus one green bean) without getting sick. But I would just like to make note of how much I did not appreciate this meal. I'd rather be eating deep fried chicken fingers, onion rings and a homemade white roll smothered in real butter and dipped in chicken gravy. Sigh.... This is my life!

Mmm, marshmallows.

There is something absolutely wonderful about marshmallows. In butterscotch squares, rice krispie squares, smores, dipped in chocolate mousse - yum. But nothing beats eating a plain old marshmallow one bite at a time. Yum! Perfection.

Happy Holidays!

My Christmas Eve has been absolutely amazing! I was surrounded by my family, we had some amazing food, and the gifts this year were above par! The only things I'm lacking are my Turkey Butt and my Dog Face. It's so quiet in the house with just Rocco and I, and opening gifts isn't the same without Turkey Butt to show them to. We'll have our own Christmas (on Boxing day) and create some traditions of our own to carry on when we have kidlets but I miss him now. He's sadly an hour away, visiting his family and I work in T-minus 8 hours for the entire Christmas Day. Sigh. This is most definitely the last time I let anything get in the way of spending the holidays with the love of my life! This is my life!

Holy Windstorm Batman.

The radio has been warning us Valley folk  about Severe Wind and Rain Storms coming our way. Obviously, I've just been ignoring it. Oops. During the midst of it, you couldn't find a house with power (unless they had one of those fancy generators) within a 30 minute radius of my town. Including my town. Turkey Butt walked me to work and the only vehicles on the roads were police car's and fire trucks (and the fire trucks always had their lights on). We didn't run into any people (or Zombies - trust me, we were a little worried) on the 20 minute walk. But the entire town was pitch black, it was plus 15 degrees Celsisus, the wind was blowing Adora over and trees were literally being uprooted out of the ground. Down by the water, the visibility was worse as the fog was rolling in at an unbelieveable pace. It was straight out of a Zombie Apocalyse movie, I swear.

To top that, I had to sit in the pitch black, creepy old Victorian nursing home all night. I waited and waited and by morning, the power still wasn't on. Trust me, it is very difficult to rouse 5 elderly ladies, get them breakfast and complete their personal care by the light of a flashlight. I managed it though. When my shift was through, I made the trek back through town - but in the daylight this time. It was amazing! Large trees cracked in half, power lines hanging like skipping ropes from their branches, trees uprooted in areas that I don't think had trees to begin with. I kinda felt like I was in a really tamed down version of Twister*.

It's 2pm now. The power only just returned... to our place at least. Turkey Butt and Adora have wandered downtown to see if they can find any food. Rocco and I are cuddling and awaiting their return. I'm certainly curious to see what the state of the town is now that the power has returned. I've heard it mentionned many times, "you know it's bad when Tim Horton's has shut down". On that note, I'm going back to eating Turkey Butt's Peeps:

and enjoying my time off before work interrupts my life again. Some tree trimming perhaps? This is my life!!!!

*I'm not comparing our wind storm to a tornado. I cannot imagine the ramifications of something like that. I am purely joking/using sarcasm to allay my night. Sorry if I've offended any one.

Traditions.

When cold season was attacking our household last week, our wonderful (future) wedding photographer Emme brought us some homemade soup! We are so beyond lucky to have met this amazing woman - but that's beside the point. When returning her container, I had to employ a family tradition that I picked up from an Aunt. I sent the container back to her with a homemade treat from me in it. In this case it was another family (Christmas) tradition - Crispix Mix! Watching my Aunt do this, it always struck me as such a thoughtful way to return a kind gesture. Emme, I hope you enjoy it, we appreciate you beyond words! This is my life!

Mmmmmm.

I would kill for some of Turkey Butt's amazing Fettucine Alfredo right about now. But since he's in the middle of a 15 hour shift (yup, the restaurant industry is super lame), I'm stuck with the frozen, pre-packaged kind. Oddly though, with a bottle of Tangerine/Lime Sparkling Water, a chick flick (Letters to Juliet) and Adora to cuddle with, it's shaping up to be a pretty fantastic meal!

I am soooo BEYOND excited to spend all day tomorrow with Turkey Butt, though! I love Mondays!! Monday's being the one day of the week that Turkey Butt gets off as the restaurant he works at is closed. Monday's being the one day I refuse to pick up a shift (except perhaps the occasional O/N) so that I have time to spend with my two loves! Tomorrow, if the rain can ease up a bit, will be filled with a romp through the forest, some Crispix Mix making, and some wedding planning in bed while watching movies! This is my life!

Gobble, Gobble, Gobble

Looking forward to my first Thanksgiving as a semi-non-vegetarian in ten years!! I made the selfless decision to start eating meat again when Turkey Butt and I started trying to become pregnant and have yet to regret it. In fact, who knew turkey tasted so darn good? Seriously! Hot turkey sandwich's smothered in gravy are now a staple of my diet. Um num num! I'm so excited for turkey today AND especially turkey tomorrow.

Turkey Butt (haha, loving the cleverness of the nickname right now) is whipping up a HUGE turkey feast for my family tomorrow. And I do mean huge. Turkey Butt has dragged me into the walk-in refridgerator at the restaurant he works at just to see the 27lb. turkey he bought. He's so proud. SO proud. I am so hungry just thinking about it. Stuffing and gravy and mashed potatoes and cranberry sauce and turkey covered in rosemary butter. Oh my!

I might just gain 12lbs. this weekend, and I'm okay with that! This is my life!

Cookie Dough

No matter how hard I try, my cookie dough just never compares to:

Pillsbury Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough. The taste, the texture, the way the cookies cook (soft in the middle, crunchy on the outside) - I just can't compete. Maybe I'll trying refridgerating my cookie dough before cooking (I do refridgerate the cookie sheets) to see if that makes a difference. This is my life...

Why I Love Turkey Butt

I accidentally forgot my phone on the bed while I was in the living room blogging today. I missed one call and five texts from Turkey Butt in less than an hour. This was my favorite:

"helo its me boyfriend turkey butt. remember me u love me. talk to me"

Hahaha, my boy is many things, but an extraordinary speller will never be one of them. But that's what makes this so darn cute.

Oh, and this lunch box (see below), which was unexpectedly delivered to me at work, is another reason why I love him!

(hot chocolate in my ladybug thermos, juice pack, bloody candy finger, pb & j tortilla wraps, banana, 'The Guardian' movie and a wonderfully misspelled love note)

I think he's a keeper.

This is my life:)

Labour Day.

When I was a kid, I thought the Labour part of this holiday referred to giving birth and not working for a living. The strangest part was that I didn't even know ANYONE who was born in September on/near this birthing holiday. Blew my mind. Of course, I was also the kid who thought chocolate milk (not steak) came from brown cows...

Alas, this Labour Day I don't know anyone giving birth AND I had to work an awake O/N. Double lame! At least I got off at 7am and caught up on my sleep a bit. Just waiting for Turkey Butt to get off work so we can go for a hike (will add photos later) and enjoy DONUT MONDAY!!!!!!

For those of you not in the know, Donut Monday is this amazing holiday created by me and Turkey Butt. We are obsessed with Tim Horton's donuts - Blueberry Bloom's and Powdered's and Boston Cream's, oh my! So obsessed in fact, that we had to limit our consumption to once a week (and no more than 3 each). Hence, DONUT MONDAY! I am BEYOND excited!

This is my life :)

The Comical Complications of TTC

To start I must apologize to any future grandparents who may come across this while leisurely keeping up to date on my life - Sorry for ruining the surprise! On that note, this whole process of TTC (trying to conceive) is beyond comical! Okay, so it's alot of things - exciting, nerve-wracking, stressful, etc. Today, while i'm home sick from work due to a very persistent bladder infection (TMI - I know), I'll try to update you on a few funny realizations after my first month of TTC.

Since we've really just began to try, I haven't done much more than Google the topic to aid in our adventure. I haven't succumbed to taking my temperature daily or buying expensive over the counter ovulation kits yet. I mainly just try to keep things in for 15 minutes following "the deed" and I'm taking prenatal vitamins to up my folic acid intake. I don't want becoming pregnant to resemble a job more than the fun job it should be. Oh, but then there's the mucous. As a little "Hey, you're ovulating" heads up, your vaginal mucous changes. It becomes thin and stringy... Or was it thick and elastic-y? Okay, I still haven't gotten this part down yet. But I can honestly say that all these years that I've longed to meet the right guy, settle down, and have babies, I never imagined that the state of my vaginal mucous would take the place of foreplay for Turkey Butt and I.

Something that struck me as funny as I was preparing to take my first at home pregnancy test was the product's packaging. I opened the box and realized that clearly, based on the packaging, they wanted me to piss on a fruit roll up...

My last comical incident of this post occurred in the parking lot of a fast food joint the other day. After I downed half a medium container of KFC gravy (yes, I drank it), I prayed that I was knocked up for no other reason than to justify what I just did. Then I went to Tim Horton's and bought 6 timbits and 2 donuts...

Due to the bladder infection and these pesky antibiotics, we'll be acting like teenagers (according to Turkey Butt) and using condoms for the next week or so. With my luck though, I'll be posting more stories in no time!

This is my life...

Artwork For Your Tastebuds.

If this concept is even possible, this:

is artwork for your tastebuds.

A triple layered tower of milk chocolate mousse, dark chocolate mousse peaked with a Belgian chocolate coulis and supported by a chocolate biscuit. The top layer of chocolate melts down the entire mountain!

Compliments Sensations Mont Belge Fondant. Who knew Sobeys had this in them? This is my life!!!
