I just put an old lady's maxi pad through the wash and all I can think is this is my life...

I'm Baaaack : )

Turkey Butt and I have finally caved in and gotten internet at our new place. Now I'm playing a frantic game of blog catch-up while Turkey Butt and Adora are in town buying boullion cubes (stew for supper, yum) and a smoothie for me! Just thought I'd take a short break from the lives of others to update everyone on the goings on here.

I am 31 weeks pregnant. Happy, healthy, well-loved and sporty a good sized bump of a belly! I promise to add photos soon. The baby is beautiful, at least that's what my OB-GYN said of her ultrasound! She is due October 29th and will be named Elodie Elizabeth (or Elodie Charlie Elizabeth - if my OB-GYN delivers the easy and painless labour that I've requested, haha).

Turkey Butt and I are still madly in love. More so every day! Even these crazy pregnancy mood swings and all the vomiting can't affect our love. You should see Turkey Butt reading Little Miss Elle a Mercer Mayer book before bed most nights! He's going to be such an amazing father and husband!

Speaking of husbands, can anyone believe that we're getting married a month from Thursday? I can hardly believe it myself. In the upcoming days I'll try to get caught up on updating everyone with more wedding details, like the reading I will do and the bouquets I have ordered for myself and my flower girl! It's all so very exciting and not stressful at all!!!!

Adora is still as cute as ever. Sadly we didn't end up getting the golden retriever puppy that we were promised (long story short - the breeder decided to keep her and didn't tell us) but it worked out well in the end anyway as Adora developped food allergies. Poor girl is allergic to either corn, wheat, soy or chicken (or some combo of all of the above) so we have to buy her specialty food made with lamb that costs an arm and a leg. It's doing wonders for her though. She's slimmed down really nicely and all her fur has grown back (she was pulling it out because of her allergies). Turkey Butt and I cannot wait to see how Adora and Little Miss Elle will grow together!!

Anyway, I should get back to my blog reading before my loves come home with treats! I'll hopefully be posting on here much more often in the future... Especially once I go on mat leave (ten more shifts to go)! As always, this is my life!

Wrong Side of the Bed

This morning, I definitely woke up on the wrong side of the bed. Maybe it was the fact that I didn't have a clock to look at so when I rolled out of bed at 9:30, I didn't realize it was too damn early and I should keep sleeping. Maybe it was because I came out to find Turkey Butt getting ready to watch some random YouTube video on some random UFC fighters and even though I declined use of the computer, I did ask that he show me some love and he proceeded to watch the entire video (all 3 or 4 parts) before turning around and realizing that I had grumpily gone back to bed. Maybe it was because I'd spent the first of the week at my wedding location and I was downright bummed out about the prospect of getting married there. Nah, it was probably the fact that I'd been off work since Sunday AM and (in)conveniently have to return for an O/N this evening. Man, I hate working.

Whatever the issue was, it certainly didn't get better - for either of us. Let's recap:

-We had to run errands a few towns over and afterwards we stopped at McD's as I was seriously craving a berry pie. I specifically told Turkey Butt that I didn't want a chocolate banana pie or an apple pie (we've played this game unsuccessfully before), I wanted a berry pie of some sort. So he comes out a few minutes later with a proud little smile on his face. He turns to me and says, "They had apple pie and peach pie so I got you one of each" (insert big smile here). ARRGGG! I love the kid and he tries so hard to please me, he really does. But I'm really curious what part of BERRY PIE he did not understand. Sigh.

-Moving on, I've been in this long and frustrating battle with my car insurance broker. Long story short (ish), I was car-less and therefore insurance-less for two years so last year when I bought my Jeep my insurance was astronomical considering my driving record and the number of years i've been licensed. The only bright spot was that my (then) insurance broker told me that once my year was up, I could switch companies, get the coverage I needed to drive my residents at work (they wouldn't give it to me last year) and it would only be about $700. Imagine my surprise when my renewal comes in the mail and says, $1330.00! Now after a lot of phone calls and explanations, I've got it to a more reasonable $850 but that doesn't include the coverage I needed for work purposes (that would've been an extra $300 and so not worth it). BUT, then my insurance agent (the new one - who knows what happened to the one who made me all these promises) phones me back and says, "Did you know your license has expired?" Well, eff! I've only been driving around with an expired license since January! And believe me, had I of known, I would have been on top of this AGES ago! I went to Access NS (Canada's version of a DMV) immediately but on my way had an erratic driver swerve dangerously behind me, while on my ass and then give me the finger as I turned into the parking lot and he sped past me. GAH!

- And let's not forget poor Turkey Butt! He started a new restaurant job on Monday (we're STILL waiting to hear from the Canadian Forces - don't get me started). In his interviews leading up to him accepting the job he was told that he's guaranteed 40 to 45 hours a week and that they were bringing him in as Co-Sous Chef with a lady who already worked there. Cut to a few days into his new job and he's only getting 6 hour shifts, not a single person has introduced themselves to him in the kitchen or been nice towards him (one lady even threatened to "kick his ass" if he made her desserts look bad when he plated them), they do absolutely nothing to train him OR help him close (he was there til 10:45 last night even though the restaurant closes at 9pm because he was the only one doing closing duties), and today he overheard them making fun of him behind his back. So, thinking what a great, open and honest boss I have who told me to come to him with anything, Turkey Butt approached his boss about the disrespect and was told that the boss hadn't decided what his "title" will be yet so for now he can consider himself a Short Order Cook (the bottom of the ladder in the kitchen world, as opposed to the Sous Chef he was supposed to be which is near the top) and he'd better take what people say with a grain of salt because he (the boss) is not there to babysit. GAH! Does he not realize that we've spent almost $100 in gas this week driving back and forth to the new job (about 25-30kms away from our house) or that last night I spent half an hour sitting in a freezing cold car waiting for Joseph to get off work or that because I had to work at 11pm tonight and we had no clue when he might get off, Turkey Butt had to bike to work!!!! On a bicycle! And now he'll have to bike the 25-30kms back home tonight in the dark and cold and I hope it's not still raining. Soooo frustrating!

- On another note, I had my second prenatal appointment today. I'm down 3 lbs (stupid morning sickness) and I'm assured that my exhaustion will end soon (I sleep 12 hours a night and still need an evening nap and that's without working all week). I need to drink more water (such a chore for me, especially since the Brita always seems to be empty and I dislike the taste of our tap water). And sometime between May 25th and June 8th I should be going for my Ultrasound!!! Woot woot! I'm 13 weeks pregnant and I'm kinda feeling like people are just assuming everything is okay as I've yet to be examined AT ALL. Not my belly, not my yoo-hoo, NOTHING! Small town doctoring is getting to me a little. Joseph has a friend who's girlfriend is due a week after me and she got to hear the heartbeat a few weeks ago! My Doctor says that we won't be able to hear it til Week 16 so I have to wait for my next prenatal visit. Grrr. For all I know there could be twelve babies in there (my stomach is certainly starting to expand - and not just in that nice first trimester thicken up kind of way). Ohhhhhh well. As you can see I'm stressed to the max. Throw in exhaustion, a sinus cold, and morning sickness and no wonder I wake up cranky.

Anyways, I know my posts aren't a positive or upbeat as they usually are. I didn't expect to be a complaining pregnant woman but sadly, this is a lot harder than I could have ever imagined. I can only hope that once the baby comes I completely forget about this whole period in time. Otherwise we're adopting the rest of our children. This is my life!

P.S. Just for fun, a picture of our soon-to-be new puppy:

She's pretty adorable isn't she?

New Puppy

I forgot to bring my camera into the house when we were visiting the puppies yesterday but here is an older picture of our baby girl:

She's the dark one in the middle. This was at two weeks old before her eyes opened. When we visited yesterday her eyes were open and she could walk around if the floor wasn't too slippery! This is my life!

Update.

Morning sickness kicked my @$$ this morning! I've been feeling better and better lately and was hoping all this morning sickness stuff would be over with by the end of the first trimester (early next week), but no such luck. All week Pumpkin has been waking me at 7:30am for some pain and nausea and a wonderful inability to fall back to sleep. The worst part is though, that if I get woken earlier (like today at 6:15) the inability to sleep kicks in early and keeps me up til the 7:30 pain and nausea kicks in. Oye.

I've heard lots of different takes on how to deal with morning sickness, eating a banana or crackers before getting out of bed are the most popular, but they never work for me. I tried eating a banana, and threw it back up. I tried eating crackers, and had awful nausea and stomach pain. For awhile I could have a sip of juice and it would ease my nausea enough to get out of bed and get a yogurt drink for breakfast (couldn't handle any other foods or forms or yogurt for breakfast). But now, nothing helps. This morning I threw up a few sips of water. Sigh. My next plan is to try to elevate my upper body (an extra pillow) when I get woken at 7:30. That eventually helped me get back to sleep this morning without vomiting again.

On another note, Turkey Butt just told Adora that, "Mommy's pregnant! With a golden retriever!" That's right folks, we're getting another puppy. We're all very excited and have been waiting to get a puppy from this specific breeder since last Fall. Timing is a little iffy what with Turkey Butt expecting to get shipped off to Boot Camp any day now (and then being gone for 4 months). But I'll just have to get creative about dogsitters while I'm at work and it will give me an excuse to get out and exercise a few times a day - even if it is just a walk around the block. Anyway, the puppies are about 4 weeks old at the moment and are just opening their eyes. We're going down to visit them today! I'll put up photos of our newest princess as soon as I get some. Exciting exciting exciting.

And for anyone who's wondering how the wedding planning is going, my Mother and I went to a Bridal Showcase on the weekend. It wasn't overly relevant for me as most of my big ticket items are purchased but it was an interesting aspect of wedding planning just the same. Yesterday Turkey Butt and I went to a cake consultation. We taste tested some amazing cupcakes and laid out our plans for the wedding and groom's cake. I'm just waiting to hear from them on a price before I can check that one off the list. That being said, the quality was good, their ideas and creativity were amazing and their artistic ability to actually do what we want is above par. As long as it's under $200 I think we'll agree to it. Plus they're locak which saves us such a hassle. In other wedding news, I've ordered dress number two. The first one arrived and just wasn't at all what I was hoping for. Which ended up working out well since I'll be 8 months pregnant and too fat to fit into it at the wedding. So I went back to the drawing board and came up with a really nice wrap wedding dress that will have lots of room for a belly of whatever size I may have. I'm really looking forward to wrapping and re-wrapping it to come up with the best style for my big day. Best of all, it cost even less than my first one so my dress budget is still under $300. Well, this is my life!

Day Twenty Four

Day 24 – A photo of something that means a lot to you.

Since I have already used Turkey Butt in my photo of something that makes me happy...

I'll go with our baby girl Adora on this one. Even though she peed on the carpet at Grampie's last night... TWICE! She still means the world to me! This is my life!

Adora.

I just had a rational (albeit one-sided) conversation with my dog. She began barking excessively, ran to the door (as if someone were knocking, though I knew they weren't), ran back into my room, jumped on the bed, and then returned to the doorway where she laid down. I waited a minute or two for her to calm before I came out to the doorway and this conversation ensued:

Me: "Did you want to go outside?"
Adora: (wags her tail and runs to the door)
Me: "Well perhaps you should have started with that!"

Did I really just try to explain to my dog how to better get what she wants? Really? I think I'm losing it. But, as always, this is my life!

Loss.

We had to have our poor little man put down yesterday. Talk about a shock to the system! He was wheezing and having a little trouble breathing so thinking he might have asthma like "Aye's cat", I took him to the vet. At the vet's office, they said he had a fever so I could put him on antibiotics (incase it was an infection) or they could do a couple chest xrays to see what was going on. I opted for the xrays - better safe than sorry, right? I had to leave him there for a few hours to get the xrays. Not much more than an hour later though, as we're eating lunch in a local Cafe, we get a call from the vet. Fluid in the lungs... Three possible causes: an incurable virus, internal bleeding or a tumour. None of the causes were treatable.

After a lunch that I didn't taste as I was trying to hold in my tears, we went to the vet's office. There we got the news we were preparing ourselves for. Rocco would not get better. We could take him home, but he would get much worse. Putting him down was given as an option. Looking back I think it was the only option as they didn't even want to bring him to us until we asked to see him. Our little baby had had a steroid injection so he was a little dopey but had more energy and enthusiasm than he had that morning. He cuddled with Joseph and I and purred the whole time. We bawled our eyes out, and hugged each other, and lamented on all the heart aches we've been through in our relationship. {I'm crying now just thinking about it} We loved our little man as much as we could in the half hour we had left with him and we said our goodbyes.

Our baby Rocco was born on August 31st, 2010. At some point in his early life he was thrown out a car window but was luckily rescued and taken to the shelter. His damages were so severe the shelter considered putting him down but put him into foster care instead. He was 2 and a half months old when we came across our little shelter kitty and we knew he was coming home with us. From the second that I set his cage down on floor of the spare room he started purring and didn't stop for days. He fell in love with Adora (and vice versa) immediately and they were the best of pals. He gave his Daddy kisses before bed but otherwise hid from his as Daddy like to splash water on him). He cuddled with me on the couch and in bed often. We think he had the best few months with us and knowing how things ended up, we wouldn't have changed our minds for all the money in the world. He is soooo missed already! But there will definitely not be anymore kitty's in our future.

This is my life.....

Lazy Blogging and Wedding Planning...

I've been on the computer on a dauly basis catching up on my favorite blogs and I've only just now realized that I haven't been writing any posts myself. As per usual, I am insanely busy with work. This week alone I've done 5 O/N's (with my 6th one tonight) and 3 evening shifts. It makes for a very busy Elle...

Also making for a very busy Elle? Wedding planning! The wedding is in less than 9 months. Gasp! We've gone back and forth a little on the exact date, but we've known since Day One (pretty much) that'd we'd marry in the Fall of 2011. It seemed SO far away once upon a time. Now it seems like it is coming so quickly. I've ordered a custom-made wedding dress from Etsy. It was cheap and if I don't like it, I figure i'll have lots of time to look for something else. I've booked the first few nights of our honeymoon at one of these cottages. I've created, printed and am in the process of writing on the envelopes for our Save The Date Cards. Our guest list has been finalized. It may start a family feud (and not the good TV game show kind) but we're happy with it and best of all, we don't have to break the bank and rent a bigger venue. We're looking into booking our Pre-Honeymoon at the end of March/early April. There seem to be so many great last minute deals that we're waiting til closer to the date to pick one.

Honestly, it's a bit of a mad house around here. But a good mad house. One filled with much more love than stress! Our animal babies are doing great. Little Man has doubled in length since arriving here and Adora had her 2nd birthday last week. They grow up so fast, sigh. As for Turkey Butt, he's busy with work and was busy training for an upcoming boxing match. Was being the key word. The amateur boxing rules have been changed and he's not a fan of the outcome of them and is questioning whether he wants to box anymore. Honestly, not having to watch someone trying to punch him in the face is just fine with me! Don't get me wrong, I would have been ringside at the fight had it gone on... but I'll be happy if that's something my eyes never have to see. Turkey Butt is undefeated in his amateur career but I know first hand that that doesn't mean he won't come home with cuts, bruises, and broken ribs (that was the worst). As it is, he regularly gets chronic nose bleeds because his boxing career has caused holes to form in the veins of his nose. Anyway, I will try to update everyone with more wedding stuff as it comes up. Enjoy your weekend, whether you're working, or just to relax at home with a loved one... or both, like me! This is my life!

On this New Year's Eve...

2010 has been a rollercoaster of a ride and there are so many things for me to be thankful for! Through the ups and the downs, it really did turn out to be a wonderful year full of love and happiness.

... my dad started walking again after his accident and was able to return to work and best of all (for him anyway) play golf.
... my sister is still my best friend and we're lucky enough to live close by and visit at least weekly
... my mom was able to visit us more often than she did last year, even if the circumstances weren't always the best
... my stepmom loves my dad, accepts my sister and i as her own children and was an amazingly strong support system for my dad while he was injured
... my family has survived the year - though not everyone will survive 2011, we had no deaths in 2010
... my bestest has found the love of her life and i\m so thrilled that he's good to her and treats her right

And me? Well, in March, Turkey Butt kissed me and I knew that I was madly in love with him and would never kiss another man ever again. We tumbled into this whirlwind love affair that I know will last the rest of our lives. I love him more every second of every day and wish we could just spend a lifetime together playing boardgames and watching movies and travelling from my family's cottage to his and hanging out with the animal babies and loving each other like it's going out of style. In 2010 we kissed, fell in love, were accepted by and fell in love with each other's family, we moved in together, we got our own place, we got pregnant, we loved and supported each other through a miscarriage, we adopted a new animal baby, we got engaged and we started new Christmas tradtions that we plan to pass down to our children someday! It wasn't always pretty, but it was always love.

Now, to 2011, all I have to say is: Bring it!

This is my life!

Holy Windstorm Batman.

The radio has been warning us Valley folk  about Severe Wind and Rain Storms coming our way. Obviously, I've just been ignoring it. Oops. During the midst of it, you couldn't find a house with power (unless they had one of those fancy generators) within a 30 minute radius of my town. Including my town. Turkey Butt walked me to work and the only vehicles on the roads were police car's and fire trucks (and the fire trucks always had their lights on). We didn't run into any people (or Zombies - trust me, we were a little worried) on the 20 minute walk. But the entire town was pitch black, it was plus 15 degrees Celsisus, the wind was blowing Adora over and trees were literally being uprooted out of the ground. Down by the water, the visibility was worse as the fog was rolling in at an unbelieveable pace. It was straight out of a Zombie Apocalyse movie, I swear.

To top that, I had to sit in the pitch black, creepy old Victorian nursing home all night. I waited and waited and by morning, the power still wasn't on. Trust me, it is very difficult to rouse 5 elderly ladies, get them breakfast and complete their personal care by the light of a flashlight. I managed it though. When my shift was through, I made the trek back through town - but in the daylight this time. It was amazing! Large trees cracked in half, power lines hanging like skipping ropes from their branches, trees uprooted in areas that I don't think had trees to begin with. I kinda felt like I was in a really tamed down version of Twister*.

It's 2pm now. The power only just returned... to our place at least. Turkey Butt and Adora have wandered downtown to see if they can find any food. Rocco and I are cuddling and awaiting their return. I'm certainly curious to see what the state of the town is now that the power has returned. I've heard it mentionned many times, "you know it's bad when Tim Horton's has shut down". On that note, I'm going back to eating Turkey Butt's Peeps:

and enjoying my time off before work interrupts my life again. Some tree trimming perhaps? This is my life!!!!

*I'm not comparing our wind storm to a tornado. I cannot imagine the ramifications of something like that. I am purely joking/using sarcasm to allay my night. Sorry if I've offended any one.

The Little Man Has Arrived!

When I went to pick Rocco up from the Shelter yesterday, we found out the sad reason he was there to begin with. The shelter informed me that they suspect (based on his injuries) that he was tossed out of a car window. His face was so badly damaged that they thought they may have to euthanize him. Luckily they didn't! Instead, with a little TLC from the shelter and he foster home, he's a happy, curious and very social kitten.

Things to know about Rocco:

-he purrs ALL the time;
-his favorite past time so far is to run and pounce on things;
-he prefers drinking out of Adora's water dish over his own;
-his cuddle time maximum appears to be 45 seconds;
-he loves belly rubs!

...more to come! This is my life!

30 for 30 - Day Three and Four

So busy. Super busy. Beyond busy. Sleep? What is sleep?

Day Three - No photo because I am far too tired to a) upload photos, b) take my clothes off or c) lie my clothes on the floor so that I can photograph them. Anyways, 2 + 6 + 18 + 28.

Day Four - 3 (til I sat in toothpaste at work and then changed back into 2) + (...insert pause to look down at clothes to remember what exactly it is that i'm wearing today) 10 + 26.

Sigh.

Did I mention we're attempting to adopt a kitten? Word of advice time? Okay. Never. NEVER EVER go to the animal shelter to "just look" at the kittens when you're even remotely pondering the idea of getting one. Never. You see, this is what happens: You fall madly in love with the first orange kitten that you see. He rolls on his back just like your adorable dog does. He reaches through the cage bar's in an attempt to bring your attention back to him when you look in other cages. You take him out of the cage for a cuddle. He shares a similar birth day (not birthday but birth day - as in both the 31st of completely seperate months) as your afore mentionned adorable dog. You ask the vet all the right questions about finding the right cat to keep your adorable dog company while you're out for a few hours. Then you ignore their suggestions (let's be honest, you knew you would) and fill out an application for the cute little orange kitten. Even though his name is Reliant. Oh, and he's a he. What does one name a male cat anyway?

Sigh.

This is my life!

Mmmmmm.

I would kill for some of Turkey Butt's amazing Fettucine Alfredo right about now. But since he's in the middle of a 15 hour shift (yup, the restaurant industry is super lame), I'm stuck with the frozen, pre-packaged kind. Oddly though, with a bottle of Tangerine/Lime Sparkling Water, a chick flick (Letters to Juliet) and Adora to cuddle with, it's shaping up to be a pretty fantastic meal!

I am soooo BEYOND excited to spend all day tomorrow with Turkey Butt, though! I love Mondays!! Monday's being the one day of the week that Turkey Butt gets off as the restaurant he works at is closed. Monday's being the one day I refuse to pick up a shift (except perhaps the occasional O/N) so that I have time to spend with my two loves! Tomorrow, if the rain can ease up a bit, will be filled with a romp through the forest, some Crispix Mix making, and some wedding planning in bed while watching movies! This is my life!

Say Yes To The Dress

I just finished working O/N three of four. To pass the time I've ogled the new IKEA catalogue, baked egg-less peanut butter cookies, created some Halloween crafts and watched wedding shows on TLC. I was actually lucky enough to catch a couple reruns of Say Yes to the Dress that I hadn't seen before. One of them involved a woman buying a dress to pair with fairy wings for her Wiccan wedding. I've got to admit, initially I was like, "Weird" but then when I saw it, I realized I kinda loved it. Reminded me so much of the movie, Ever After. Cute!

On another note, we found ourselves a wedding photographer for a third of the price of the "competition". I magically came across her add on Kijiji one night - for pet photography! We took Adora for a photo session with her in the local park on Thursday and it was really laid back. She happened to mention that she's done a few weddings which certainly peaked our interest. She then emailed me with an amazing deal - $1500 off because she wants to use our photos to bild her portfolio! Done!

My blogging obstacle.

Would you be surprised to learn that this photo was taken with my computer's webcam while I was blogging this morning? I can't even see me in this picture! Adora sure does love to claim as much attention as she can. She's such a good cuddler, if only she wasn't 80lbs, didn't insist on squishing my left boob, and chose not to do this while I was busy blogging on the computer. But she's sweet, so she always gets the cuddle breaks she so obviously craves. What a girl! This is my life!
