I just put an old lady's maxi pad through the wash and all I can think is this is my life...

Added Holiday Stress

Ohhh the stress of trying to purchase a house. Now I remember why I've rented all these years. Being not a very patient person, the waiting is literally killing me. Okay, okay not literally but still. Gah!

It all started off innocently enough - doesn't it always? - with me casually perusing MLS listings. I saw a couple nice ones and one amazing one that was shocking priced reasonably. But still, I knew we were in our lease til the end of April 2012 so it was all just for fun. But then our bedroom closet sprung a leak. By bedroom closet, I really mean the bathroom of the aparment upstairs sprung a leak. I'm talking serious water damage and an increasingly alarming mould outbreak. Turkey Butt and I had to clear out the closet, move our clothes and bed into the (already crowded) nursery and close up the room. Our landlords solution? A few days later they stopped the leak but have yet to address the fact that the closet will have to be torn out and redone, the mould issue will have to be dealt with, and the carpet will have to be ripped up.

All of a sudden, Turkey Butt and I are thinking we should fast track our home buying plans. So we contacted sweet hubby's bank and a real estate agent to get the ball rolling. Cut to a week later. After looking at 4 houses, we had my father-in-law come up to inspect our top two picks. Pick number two ended up having structural damage to the tune of approx. $50, 000 so scratch that off the list! Pick number one (a.k.a. dream house) needed a new roof ($3,000 to $5,000) and my father in law had a few questions about the spray foam insulation in the basement.

So, we put an offer on our dream house last night. We offered $7,000 less than the asking price. We felt this was generous considering the house had been on the market for a year and was located within spitting distance to a busy street. They counter offerred at $2,000 below their asking price at about the same time we found out the insulation needs to be covered to meet building code regulations and insure it isn't a fire hazard. Father-in-law estimates this would cost another $2,000. Oye.

Here's my dilemma, I am not moving my family into a house that has unsafe, flammable materials in it. This is a given. But at the same time, do I really want to add another out of pocket expense onto an already expensive home? So far we're looking at a minimum of $5,000 of work and this doesn't even include the little things (like bannisters need to be built for both staircases). This is my dream house and it is magically, just barely, in my budget due to the poor location but there has to be some give. If the Seller's agree to fix the basement and install smoke detectors ( there are none in the house), then we will accept their counter offer. If not, we may up our offer by $1,000 but that will be our final offer.

Soooo much stress over the holidays. My patience is wearing thin. Oh, and did I mention that the bank was supposed to get back to us "by the end of the week" with the amount that they'll preapprove us to borrow for a mortgage? But look at that, the bank closed forty minutes ago and it's a Friday. Now we'll have to wait til Monday to find out if we'll even be approved for enough money to purchase this house. Sigh. This is my life.

Lazy Blogging and Wedding Planning...

I've been on the computer on a dauly basis catching up on my favorite blogs and I've only just now realized that I haven't been writing any posts myself. As per usual, I am insanely busy with work. This week alone I've done 5 O/N's (with my 6th one tonight) and 3 evening shifts. It makes for a very busy Elle...

Also making for a very busy Elle? Wedding planning! The wedding is in less than 9 months. Gasp! We've gone back and forth a little on the exact date, but we've known since Day One (pretty much) that'd we'd marry in the Fall of 2011. It seemed SO far away once upon a time. Now it seems like it is coming so quickly. I've ordered a custom-made wedding dress from Etsy. It was cheap and if I don't like it, I figure i'll have lots of time to look for something else. I've booked the first few nights of our honeymoon at one of these cottages. I've created, printed and am in the process of writing on the envelopes for our Save The Date Cards. Our guest list has been finalized. It may start a family feud (and not the good TV game show kind) but we're happy with it and best of all, we don't have to break the bank and rent a bigger venue. We're looking into booking our Pre-Honeymoon at the end of March/early April. There seem to be so many great last minute deals that we're waiting til closer to the date to pick one.

Honestly, it's a bit of a mad house around here. But a good mad house. One filled with much more love than stress! Our animal babies are doing great. Little Man has doubled in length since arriving here and Adora had her 2nd birthday last week. They grow up so fast, sigh. As for Turkey Butt, he's busy with work and was busy training for an upcoming boxing match. Was being the key word. The amateur boxing rules have been changed and he's not a fan of the outcome of them and is questioning whether he wants to box anymore. Honestly, not having to watch someone trying to punch him in the face is just fine with me! Don't get me wrong, I would have been ringside at the fight had it gone on... but I'll be happy if that's something my eyes never have to see. Turkey Butt is undefeated in his amateur career but I know first hand that that doesn't mean he won't come home with cuts, bruises, and broken ribs (that was the worst). As it is, he regularly gets chronic nose bleeds because his boxing career has caused holes to form in the veins of his nose. Anyway, I will try to update everyone with more wedding stuff as it comes up. Enjoy your weekend, whether you're working, or just to relax at home with a loved one... or both, like me! This is my life!

"They're coming to get you Barbara!"

Our Haunted Housewarming was a HUGE success! The Zombie Prom theme was perfect! My bestest and I covered a few decades of Prom Queens. We had a zombie nurse on hand incase things got out of control and a zombie rockstar to enertain the masses. You know how unruly those zombie masses can be! I even snuck in a few zombie slow dances with Turkey Butt!

(Adora made a cute little lady bug)

(Zombie Elle and Zombie Turkey Butt)

(Night of the Living Dead)

(There was no shortage of Halloween inspired treats)

I think this will have to be a new tradition for Turkey Butt and I. It's certainly helping Halloween give Christmas a run for it's money in the Favorite Holiday category! But I won't be able to judge that til after my 2nd Annual Ugly Christmas Sweater Party.

The best thing about the party was that we strategically scheduled a much needed mini-cation the following morning. So, Halloween night, after the party goers had gone home, we cleaned all the fake blood out of the tub and off the fridge. We took down as much as we could manage before we crashed for the night. Then the nex morning we just packed and left for a 36 hour mini-cation at the cottage.

As hard as it was to leave the cottage, I knew we'd be rearranging the furniture and getting ready to decorate for Christmas. Rearranging and reorganizing things are always fun! Now i'm in the middle of our chaotic living room, staring down a pile of books, craft supplies and storage totes that need to be organized. BUT FIRST, a nap! This is my life!

It's been a busy week - working 7 shifts, planning our thanksgiving get together, hiring a pet photographer, contacting wedding photographers, etc. There's just no time left at the end of the day for much more than five minutes of a movie and sleep. I'd hoped to watch a horror movie a day for the month of October and then critique them for you - that's not going to happen. Let's just hope that I'll have more on my mind post-turkey day. Like Murder Mystery night, and our Haunted Housewarming party... Oye. This is my life.

Exhausted.

I have worked ten shifts this week. Turkey Butt is taking a driver's training course this weekend (on top of working his usual shifts) so I haven't spent more than 15 minutes with him since Wednesday night. Wednesday also happens to be the last night that I slept in my own bed overnight. I am so completely exhausted! Here's some proof:

- Threw on a shirt to meet up with a friend I haven't seen in months. Got distracted before I got pants on and realized I haven't fed the fish all week.
- Fed the fish in my shirt and underwear.
- Glanced in a mirror on my way to put on pants and realized my shirt was on inside out.
- And backwards.
- Realized that I haven't watered the plants all week.
- Or showered for that matter.
- Ate a PB&J on questionable bread. It was that or Mini Wheats and I didn't feel like opening the fridge.
- Started a new book. Still haven't written a review for my last book. Or the one before that, which my blog says I'm currently reading (NOT!)
- Put down the book every chapter because it requires much more thought than Facebook creeping does.
- Picked it back up every half an hour when I realized I've been creeping the same people over and over again.
- Tried creeping the people on Turkey Butt's Facebook. Turns out that's an epic fail due to the fact that we grew up an hour apart and previous to our relationship, had no common friends.
- Walked into the office with the brilliant plan of organizing it while Turkey Butt is away.
- Walked back out after I had only one foot in.
-Went back to Facebook.

Wow, I'm going to stop myself there. This really could go on forever. I am THAT exhausted. But there are too many things that I need to do - making sleep next to impossible. I WISH only for this second that I didn't give up caffeine because we're TTC. I could use an Iced Capp from Tim Horton's right about now.

Oye, this is my life.

The Comical Complications of TTC

To start I must apologize to any future grandparents who may come across this while leisurely keeping up to date on my life - Sorry for ruining the surprise! On that note, this whole process of TTC (trying to conceive) is beyond comical! Okay, so it's alot of things - exciting, nerve-wracking, stressful, etc. Today, while i'm home sick from work due to a very persistent bladder infection (TMI - I know), I'll try to update you on a few funny realizations after my first month of TTC.

Since we've really just began to try, I haven't done much more than Google the topic to aid in our adventure. I haven't succumbed to taking my temperature daily or buying expensive over the counter ovulation kits yet. I mainly just try to keep things in for 15 minutes following "the deed" and I'm taking prenatal vitamins to up my folic acid intake. I don't want becoming pregnant to resemble a job more than the fun job it should be. Oh, but then there's the mucous. As a little "Hey, you're ovulating" heads up, your vaginal mucous changes. It becomes thin and stringy... Or was it thick and elastic-y? Okay, I still haven't gotten this part down yet. But I can honestly say that all these years that I've longed to meet the right guy, settle down, and have babies, I never imagined that the state of my vaginal mucous would take the place of foreplay for Turkey Butt and I.

Something that struck me as funny as I was preparing to take my first at home pregnancy test was the product's packaging. I opened the box and realized that clearly, based on the packaging, they wanted me to piss on a fruit roll up...

My last comical incident of this post occurred in the parking lot of a fast food joint the other day. After I downed half a medium container of KFC gravy (yes, I drank it), I prayed that I was knocked up for no other reason than to justify what I just did. Then I went to Tim Horton's and bought 6 timbits and 2 donuts...

Due to the bladder infection and these pesky antibiotics, we'll be acting like teenagers (according to Turkey Butt) and using condoms for the next week or so. With my luck though, I'll be posting more stories in no time!

This is my life...

How Sweet It Is To Be Loved By You.

I've been busy all week and therefore neglecting my blogging needs. Turkey Butt's fun-filled Birthday Week (yes, week) is winding down but we've accomplished SO much!

Monday- Gave him a tour of my hometown and took him to meet my grandparents. Went out for birthday supper with my best friend Ay and her man and Turkey Butt's best friend Cee and his girlfriend. It was fantastic :) Everyone got along SO well. It was great for Turkey Butt and I to just sit back and watch everyone laughing and chatting with each other!

Tuesday- THE birth day. Turkey Butt came to visit me at work and met some of my silly residents. One of which is now convinced that we're getting married next summer and going to have a baby, haha. At the carrot cake that my sister Aych and I made for him.

Wednesday- Went to the city to so I could meet his parents. Met his Mom at her work. Spent the afternoon and the Discovery Centre. Went to his family cottage for the night with his Dad.

Thursday (today)- Back home from the cottage. Took the dog for a walk around town. Laid out in the sun til it was time for work. Since he's been at work, I've been printing off photos from the past few days to put into albums/scrapbooks.

Tomorrow- We plan to go hiking before we both head to work.

Oye, busy busy busy. But this is my life!

A Week in the Life of Me.

MONDAY- DAY OFF! WOO! Skipped sleep after my overnight because I had to return my Diddy's Jeep. Spent some time with the grandparentals - knitting, sewing, watching the Olympics. Dropped off the Jeep, then went to a local restaurant with a group of friends. Nachos! Yum!

WEDNESDAY- DAY OFF! WOO! Did a little knitting. Read a few more pages of James Frey's new book, Bright Shiny Morning. Watched the local University hockey team's first playoff game with my best friend.

THURSDAY- Cleaned the apartment for a house viewing. My sister came over and brought me potato scallop for supper (YUM!). We drove to our Diddy's house for our weekly Rummoli game. Back to town in time to work an overnight (11:30pm til 8:30am) at the Nursing Home.

FRIDAY- Slept til 2pm. Worked at the Group Home from 3pm til 11pm. Took a cab to the Nursing Home and worked an overnight.

SATURDAY- Slept from about 9:30am til 11:30am. Went to the 2nd birthday party of my friend's little guy from 1pm til 2pm. Worked at the Group Home from 3pm til 11pm. Took a cab (again) to the Nursing Home and worked another overnight.

YESTERDAY- Slept til 4pm. Went to a local bar/restaurant to watch Canada win GOLD!!! Played cards and ranted about boys with my best friend. Worked an overnight at the Nursing Home.
