I just put an old lady's maxi pad through the wash and all I can think is this is my life...

Oh Canada.

Two very important things to know about me are that I'm a very proud Canadian and that I am a HUGE hockey fan! The Canada vs USA gold medal olympic game is a huge deal for so many Canadians! After losing to them in the round robin play and after our World Junior Team just lost to the Americans at Christmas time, we're desperate for a win. And it will happen!

As we speak, I am attempting to watch a live feed from the game on my lap top. Needless to say, my internet is soooo slow. The best I can manage is skipping video and sound, or great video with no sound. Though I have no control over which I will get to experience at any certain time. Might have to suck it up and crowd into a local bar to catch the game. It's a great atmosphere if we're winning but if the end result isn't what we're all hoping for, there will be a sweeping depression in the bar. Sigh, the pro's and con's of public sports viewing.

Anyways, GO CANADA GO!!!!!! THIS is my LIFE!

Hectic.

Sorry to anyone who may be reading this! I've been pulling double shifts for the last few days and haven't had time to catch up on sleep let alone my blog. I promise, after my nap I'll try to update on my work/life/knitting progress (it's impressive!).

Junk Drawers.

Growing up there was always a junk drawer in the kitchen that became home to anything with no other place to go. Now that I'm the "grown up", I've inherited this bad habit and made it all my own. I don't have a junk drawer. I have junk DRAWERS (see photos). Things that probably have other homes, like pay stubs and cookbooks and birthday cards, wind up in these drawers. I need help. At this rate, my entire kitchen will be just junk drawers, junk cupboards, junk fridge shelves... Any helpful organization suggestions would be much appreciated. Because as you can see,

this is my life.

A Love Letter to the Man of My Life.

Dear Chubbs,

As I write this you're laying sprawled out on the floor, ball's up. Watching you, I can't help but think about how much I love you! You may drive me absolutely crazy sometimes, especially when you chew through my cords, poop in the bathtub, and pee in my laundry basket, but I love you long time.

When I'm sad, you knead my belly with your paws and I know your purr's are telling me it'll be okay. When I come home from work you're so excited to see me that you try to trip me up while rubbing against my legs. When I stop reading out loud to you, you give me this, "Why are you stopping?" look that let's me know you were really listening. When I let you outside for an adventure, you always come back within a few minutes and scratch the glass to let me know you want to come back in. I love all these things and more about you.

Love your Auntie Mama!

Yes, I just wrote a love letter to my cat... this is my life.

I Love Etsy.

Honestly, what's not to love? Here's my initial purchase(s):

I LOVE these frames! Four guys and a girl (find her at: http://www.etsy.com/shop/4guysandagirl ) did a fantastic job and I hope to eventually get more, I'm thinking 8 or 9 total. I would like to create a 2x4 or 3x3 pattern on my wall. Haven't decided on what to put in the frames yet, as you can see, but that'll come.

Expect more etsy purchases in the not too distant future because this is my life!

The Knitting Experiment: Day One.

As if my life isn't crazy enough working anywhere from 50 to 90 hours a week, I decided that I should knit my sister a scarf for her birthday. Now that may not seem like such a hectic undertaking to most of you, but you need to take the following facts into consideration.

a) I've only been knitting for a few months and one neck warmer is all that I've "created";
b) My sister's birthday is in T minus 14 days;
c) I WORK 50 TO 90 HOURS A WEEK!!!!

This is what I accomplished on a slow nursing home shift:

As usual, this is my life.

An Oldie, But A Goodie.

Oddly work has been fairly average these last few days so i'll share one of my favorite nursing home stories. It revolves around a 94 year old lady I'll refer to as Cranky Pants and our ongoing love/hate relationship!

One evening I was helping Cranky Pants swing her legs over the side of the bed so that she could get up. Even though she follows the exact same routine day in and day out, she likes to yell at you and complain the entire time. This evening it seems I was a pain in her neck (believe me, i've heard it all). This was our exchange:

Cranky Pants: You're a pain in my neck!
Me: Well you're driving me crazy but I still love you! Do you love me?
Cranky Pants: (smiles) Yeah! (punches me in the jaw)

Now I'm not sure how many of you have ever been sucker punched by a 94 year old woman, but contrary to popular belief, it really did hurt! Luckily, it makes for a pretty hilarious story and gives me awesome bragging rights. And now, whenever someone talks about Senior Abuse, I just laugh and think, If you only knew. This is my life...

Paperwork.

When you work in the field that I do, you very quickly learn to DREAD paperwork! New medication? Paperwork. Two residents had an argument? Paperwork. Made a long distance telephone call? Paperwork. Resident picked their scab? Paperwork! ARGGG, it's really neverending. I can understand how some people might want to walk around with a blind eye after awhile.

Take this morning for instance; I had to fill out TWO pages of paperwork before 7am because a resident had a bruise. A BRUISE! If I had to fill out paperwork for every time that I had a bruise, I'd be a much larger contributer to global warming. This bruise was pretty extraordinary though. So large one couldn't possibly turn a blind eye towards it. Unless of course you're my oblivious coworker. The oblivious coworker who had supervised this resident's bath for the past FIVE days and failed to notice a bruise of this magnitude that has clearly been in various stages of fading for at least a few days now. Oye.

When is paperwork a more acceptable task? When it makes for a great story! Like earlier in the week when I had to write up a bunch of paperwork to address the issue of one resident giving another resident an unwanted lap dance in public. This is my life...

Valentine's Day minus the BF

I hate Valentine's Day! I will happily admit that the fact that I am ALWAYS single during this couple's holiday has a LOT to do with it. This year I am finally not single but GUESS WHAT?!? My wonderful, loving boyfriend recently moved to a) a different country and b) the other side of the continent.

This, I have long ago realized, is what best friend's are for. Let's keep a tally:

-Boyfriend sends me an early AM "Happy Valentine's Day" text (POINT).
-Best friend shows up after work with a homemade Valentine (POINT).
-Boyfriend tells me what we would be doing if we were together this holiday (POINT).
-Best friend takes me out for a romantic dinner for two (POINT).
-Boyfriend?
-Best friend takes me to see a chick flick in the theatres (POINT).
-Boyfriend? Where are you Boyfriend?
-Best guy friend brings me chocolate mousse to my nursing home overnight (POINT!!!).
-Boyfriend, oh boyfriend.......

The only thing that kept me in a relatively good mood (considering): ERIC DANE in "Valentine's Day".

Enough said.

...this is my life.
